Living in student accommodation comes with many pros and cons, but one of the main cons is that it can be hard to motivate yourself to get up and study. The temptation to stay in bed or go out with your friends can be hard to resist, which is why it is important to make your student flat an ideal place to study and revise.
Most Sheffield student housing comes equipped with a desk which you can use to complete work and revise on. The saying goes that a tidy desk means a tidy mind and keeping your workspace clean can allow you to utilise the space for your work, rather than using it as extra storage.
As well as keeping your study space tidy, you should also keep it organised. Using desk tidies, calendars, storage and post its can organise your work and study schedule into a task that you can accomplish. Create a large study calendar on your wall so you can see when your exams are well ahead of time.
Just because you are using your time to study, doesn’t necessarily mean other people will be. That means you can be surrounded by noise and distractions. Use music or invest in some good headphones to help you focus on your task at hand. Many people find that listening to classical music or acoustic music can help them focus on their study.
If you are going to study and work for extended periods of time, you need to be comfortable. Making your room a comfortable place to study can also entice other students in your class or in your halls to study with you, sometimes groups can help lessen the workload or you can work together to understand something that you found hard before.
Picking the right snack can be hard when you’ve spent all day studying, but making sure you have healthy, nutritious snacks on hand will help your brain stay awake rather than flagging half way through your revision. Keep cereal bars or bananas in your room rather than crisps and chocolate for a quick snack on hand that won’t burn you out in half an hour.
It can be hard to find the motivation to study whilst enjoying life in your Sheffield student accommodation, but having a comfortable room with organised study materials can make it that bit easier.
